Explore the souks of Marrakesh on a yoga retreat in Morocco.

Yoga Retreat in Morocco

3-10 March 2018

Marrakesh is a truly unique place – you’ll feel like you’ve landed in a completely different world, where all your senses are being stimulated at once!

With so many beautiful corners to explore in between yoga classes, full of colors, aromas, music, spices – our yoga retreat in Morocco is a real cultural experience. We’ll show you the winding alleys of the outdoor souk markets, beautiful palaces and traditional riads, we’ll plan a camel ride and dinner in the desert, and a day trip to the Atlas mountains. With plenty of time to relax at our high-end spa and pool at our 5* hotel.

Tania will teach two yoga classes a day – an active Vinyasa flow class in the morning and an evening restorative Yin yoga class at sunset. We welcome all yoga levels, we have people joining us from all over the world, and many solo travelers – so come along even on your own. Two of us from Yoga Escapes will be there with the group, so no need to worry that you’re venturing into unfamiliar territory, we’ll show you around and take care of everything!

What to expect

Our yoga escape in Morocco is much more of a yoga holiday than a yoga retreat. Rather than retreating to somewhere secluded, we’re immersing ourselves into the life and culture of Morocco and all its beauty.

The weather in March is warm and sunny – it feels like summer, perfect for practicing yoga outdoors and dips in the pool.

Superb yoga is at the heart of this trip, and we promise you will return home having improved your yoga practice, and feeling stronger and more relaxed both physically and mentally.

But you can also expect to be pampered and taken care of, to indulge in a little me-time at the spa, to enjoy good food and a glass of wine, to meet people from all over the world with interesting stories and life experiences. It’s an easygoing fun atmosphere, and yes you can skip a yoga class if you’re tired – we won’t judge!

Where we are going

Where is the yoga retreat located?

Our yoga retreat in Morocco is located in Marrakesh – a vibrant city full of history and color (see Marrakesh on a map).

Our 5* hotel is in the modern upscale part of the city, just five minutes from the bustling town center. So you can easily explore the souks and all the cultural sites, and just as easily return to the peace and calm of our luxury hotel and spend time by the pool or spa.

There’s also plenty to explore near Marrakesh – day trip to the desert, the Atlas mountains, hiking, Essaouira town on the beach. We’ll offer up ideas.

Marrakesh is easy to get to with direct flights from London and from several other European cities.

About Marrakesh

Marrakesh is an enchanting place with lots of energy and culture.

The Medina – the famous walled Medieval town – is lined with picturesque squares, mosques and gardens, and definitely worth a visit.

Also worth exploring are the renovated riads – traditional Moroccan houses and palaces with an interior courtyard. Followed by a stroll in the maze-like alleys where bustling souks (marketplaces) sell traditional textiles, jewelry and colorful pottery. We’ll take you!

There is also a modern side to Marrakech, with luxury hotels and lovely restaurants, as well as several residential neighborhoods nearby.

Luxury Accommodation

5* Es Saadi Palace Marrakesh

We’re hosting our yoga retreat in Morocco at the 5* Es Saadi Palace – a luxury hotel located in a quiet neighborhood just a few minutes from the old town.

The hotel is a mix of a modern contemporary style and traditional Moroccan architecture, with all the amenities you can expect from a luxury hotel. We’ll be staying in large Junior Suites with terraces and views out to the garden and pool area.

The hotel has one of the largest swimming pools in Marrakesh, a hydrotherapy indoor pool, and a fantastic spa with a Moroccan hammam. It offers all sorts of treatments from traditional body scrubs to a variety of massages (time to spoil yourself!).

There are several restaurants as well offering typical Moroccan cuisine, French options, as well as an organic restaurant.

delicious moroccan tagines and slow cooked dishes on a luxury yoga retreat in Marrakesh

Local Cuisine

Tasty tagines, spices, vegetable casseroles, slow-cooked fish and meat dishes – Morocco’s cuisine is full of colors and flavors!

We’ll have a buffet breakfast after yoga with all sorts of options – eggs and omelets, pancakes, toasts, fruit juices, veggies, cheeses, yoghurts. Some people have a light lunch or afternoon snack, and we’ll plan group dinners at typical Moroccan restaurants. Marrakesh has a strong French influence so we’ll also try some French brasseries.

Eat and drink what you like

You can eat and drink what you like on our yoga retreats, we don’t have any restrictions, and we’re very mindful of people’s dietary needs (vegetarian, gluten-free etc.). We often have a glass of wine with dinner, you can eat meat and fish without anyone judging, and we encourage you to try out the local Moroccan dishes – it’s all part of the cultural experience!

What yoga means to us

Yoga is at the heart of our retreats, and we offer the real deal. You’ll definitely get a good workout, but the goal of the physical practice is to challenge you enough physically so you can begin to let go and quiet the mind. That’s what yoga is all about – calming the mind. And that’s what we teach on our yoga retreats. You will feel re-energized and restored both physically and mentally.

Vinyasa Yoga and Yin Yoga

We offer two yoga classes a day on our yoga retreat in Morocco: a morning Vinyasa flow class to get your heart going, and an evening Yin class to relax. Both classes are suitable for all levels.

What is Vinyasa? What is Yin Yoga?

Your yoga teacher and your host

Tania Brown and Laura Bianchini

Tania Brown is the teacher on our yoga retreat in Morocco. She’ll modify classes for all levels so you can practice at your own pace, and will also offer more challenging poses for the more advanced.

Laura will also be there to make sure everything runs smoothly, to organize day trips and group dinners.
