Greece is the perfect place for a yoga retreat. Here are some reasons why:

Tree Pose Panormos Beach Yoga Retreat Mykonos With its gorgeous beaches, delicious food, warm sunshine and charming towns full of character, you can’t beat Greece as the perfect summer destination and a fantastic place to explore on a yoga retreat. From the well-known islands of Mykonos and Santorini, to the more remote islands off the beaten path, there’s a yoga retreat for every taste.

It all depends on whether your goal is to get away from the hustle and bustle and find a quiet secluded place far away from everything, or perhaps you want to be pampered and spoiled at a luxury 5* hotel and not have to worry about a thing.

Some islands have international airports and are easy to get to, while others require a bit more planning and perhaps a boat transfer after your flight. But whichever you choose, you will surely fall in love with life on the Greek islands, and a yoga retreat is the perfect way to discover this magical place.

4 reasons to go on a yoga retreat in Greece this summer:

Beautiful Greek beaches.1. Beautiful beaches and hidden coves

Greece is a beach-lover’s paradise! The Greek islands are famous for their gorgeous beaches, from small secluded bays to large golden beaches with crystal clear waters.

Some of the bigger islands have over 20 or 30 beaches, so you could easily see a different one every day. You could also rent a sailing boat for the day or jump on a guided boat tour and let the locals take you to the hidden coves only accessible by sea.

The color of the water is a deep blue-green with different shades depending on the surrounding landscape. And you’ll be sure to find clean sea on all the islands, despite the increased tourism and boats coming through, Greece has still managed to maintain clean beaches and clean water for wonderful swims.

Sunshine in Greece on a yoga retreat.2. Warm sunny weather from May to October

Greece is warm and sunny from late April until well into October. And in some of the southern islands, you can find people swimming in the sea in November! We think the best months for a yoga retreat in Greece are May-June and September-October, avoiding the high season months in between. May and June are already very warm and sunny, perfect for a swim in the sea and to practice yoga outdoors. And the weather stays warm until September and October, when the beaches are not too crowded and many of the summer tourists have left. The shoulder season months are when you can really begin to appreciate the islands and their beauty. This is when we prefer to go.

Delicious Greek Cuisine in Mykonos3. Delicious Greek cuisine and wines

A yoga retreat in Greece wouldn’t be complete without trying the wonderful local Greek dishes. There’s so much variety – from traditional family-run tavernas, high-end restaurants, and street-side souvlaki joints for a great snack. The food is healthy and delicious, and the ingredients are super fresh – pure olive oil, fresh local vegetables and salads, grilled fish and meat, olives, cheeses, and slow-cooked oven dishes. Greece also has some very good wines, both from the mainland and from the islands – Santorini for example has some world-renown wineries with superb whites and reds.

What makes the Greek islands really special in addition to gorgeous beaches, are the many charming towns, and the wonderful way of life of the locals. In contrast to some other resort areas in Europe where you may stay in your resort for the duration of your trip, in Greece you’ll often find an authentic town near your hotel where you can wander around, feel the real Greek culture and experience local life. Mykonos town for example, Oia and Imerovigli towns in Santorini, as well as Chania in Crete are all absolutely beautiful, with pedestrian streets, seaside cafés and magnificent sunsets – the perfect places to sit and watch life go by.
