You’d like to go on a yoga retreat, but you’re not quite sure what to expect?
One of the most common questions we get from participants joining our Mykonos yoga retreat is: what does a typical day look like?
While many yoga retreats have a set schedule and every minute of the day is planned with activities and classes, we’re a bit more relaxed and allow for plenty of time to enjoy the holiday part in addition to the yoga part.
So the only set times we have are the two yoga classes a day – and even those are optional. If you’re too tired in the morning, or too comfortable to get up from your sunbed on the beach, no one will judge, we understand!
A typical day with pictures from our past Mykonos yoga retreats:
Start your day with 5* luxury and amazing views:
Wake up in a gorgeous seaview room at a 5* hotel with wonderful views out to sea. You can grab a quick coffee or tea before yoga to get you going before we all meet up on our terrace at 8:30am for our morning yoga class.
If you’re super energetic, you can go for a swim at the pool before yoga class, or take a walk along the beach – the hotel where we stay sits right on one of the most beautiful beaches in Mykonos and all of Greece. And it’s empty in the early morning – the perfect time to enjoy some peace and quiet.
An active morning yoga class to get you going:
Our yoga teacher will guide us through an invigorating Vinyasa flow yoga class for an hour and a half from 8:30-10am – the perfect way to get your body moving with a boost of energy followed by soothing relaxation. The terrace where we practice yoga sits above Elia bay and has shade and sun, and a spectacular view of the sea. The morning classes are quite active, but all levels can join, even beginners, Our yoga teacher will modify the poses for everyone and will come around and adjust you during class. And you’ll definitely see an improvement in your practice throughout the week – it’s more like a week-long course rather than just a set of classes, each day we build on from the previous day and work on all aspects of your practice and your body.
Delicious healthy breakfast:
After our morning yoga class, we enjoy a healthy and hearty breakfast together – omelets, fruit, cereals, veggies, yoghurt and honey, all sorts of breads and spreads, cheese, smoked salmon, fresh juices, as well as many gluten-free options. And yes there’s even champagne for those who want to indulge! This meal usually keeps us going for most of the day – some people may have a light snack mid-afternoon, but you definitely don’t want to miss this delicious breakfast.
Time to relax or explore:
And then everyone is free to spend the afternoon as they wish. Some people like to relax by the pool or on the beach, while others like to go horseback-riding, water sports, or enjoy a massage at the hotels’ spa – voted one of the best in Greece. We’ll offer up ideas, take you to different beaches and suggest boat trips and places to visit on the island. Some will wander into Mykonos town and explore its many boutique shops and outdoor cafés, and others will take a day trip to Delos island for a cultural day. There are also sailing trips around the island and wine tasting tours. But everything is completely optional – it’s your time and your holiday.
Evening restorative yoga at sunset:
We’ll meet back together on our terrace for our evening Yin yoga class from 6-7pm with sunset views out to sea. This is a very restorative yoga class – completely the opposite from our morning active class. Think deep stretching, letting go, holding just a few poses for a lot longer, closing your eyes, relaxing into the pose and relaxing all your muscle tissue, with a longer and deeper final relaxation. It’s wonderful, it’s your chance to turn inward and have a bit of “me time” in a beautiful setting. Being still for an hour might take some getting used to, but once you get into it, you’ll love it.
Dinner in town or by the sea:
And then it’s dinner time – we’ll go into Mykonos town for dinner on several nights, other times we’ll eat by the beach near the hotel, we’ll show you our favorite restaurants and plan a group dinner every night for those who want to join. There’s a lovely greek taverna in a small town called Ano Mera just minutes from the hotel, and the hotel itself has a great restaurant as well as others in sister hotels nearby – so plenty of wonderful options.
Delicious healthy Mediterranean food, lots of yummy veggies, fresh grilled fish and meat, big salads, and a nice glass of wine. By that point many people are ready for a good night sleep in a super comfy bed at our luxury hotel, but some will venture out for a night cap at a waterfront cocktail bar or at the hotel bar. And for the super night owls, yes we’ll plan a fun night out in Mykonos – after all it is known for its nightlife! But of course even that is optional – just follow your mood!
