What to expect

Our yoga retreat in Tenerife is the perfect escape from the cold winter weather to warm sunny days by the sea. We’ll practice yoga outdoors on a rooftop terrace, we’ll relax on the beach, take day trips to old colonial Spanish towns, and long walks along the promenade by the sea.

Sarah will teach two yoga classes a day, she’ll modify poses for beginners and challenge the more advanced yogis, so everyone can join. The morning Vinyasa flow classes are quite active, while the evening Yin yoga classes are very restorative and soothing. And of course all of them are optional.

We’ll plan group dinners and do some things together, but we understand that having some quite time alone is also important. We’ll recommend different things to do, but completely up to you to join what you like.

Tenerife offers something for everyone – you can climb the tallest mountain in Spain, indulge in a thermal spa treatment, explore a new beach every day, or go for bike ride. But some of you will be perfectly happy just sipping your drink by the pool with a book, soaking up the sun and warm weather – and that’s absolutely fine!

Where we are going

Where is the yoga retreat located?

Our yoga retreat in the Canary Islands is located on the island of Tenerife (see Tenerife on a map).

We’ll be staying in the lovely resort of Costa Adeje on the southern coast of the island – the most upscale part of Tenerife with a long promenade filled with seaside cafes and restaurants along the beach. Our 5* hotel is right on the promenade and a two minute walk down to the beach, and there is also a nice shopping area within walking distance of the hotel.

There are some charming colonial villages nearby that are worth a day trip – La Orotava, Garachico and La Laguna the old capital. As well as impressive Mount Teide looking over the island.

Tenerife has many direct flights from several European cities.

About Tenerife

Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands and lies just off the northern coast of Africa, with perfect warm weather year-round and eternal sunshine – one of the reasons why this island is such a wonderful beach holiday destination. Tenerife is a volcanic island and has a lot of natural beauty, with a mix of rugged terrain, dramatic landscapes, beautiful sandy beaches and stunning cliffs – so much more to it than the tourist hotspots.

The northern coast is where you’ll find the busy capital of Santa Cruz, along with the more laidback resort of Puerto de la Cruz. The southern beach resorts vary quite a lot from each other – Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos are both geared to vibrant holidaymakers, while Costa Adeje is much more upscale and peaceful, with clean beautiful beaches and a more relaxing vibe. This is where we’ll be staying at our 5* hotel.

Luxury Accommodation

5* Hotel & Spa

We are hosting our yoga retreat at a 5* luxury hotel set in a privileged location right on the seafront between the two main beaches of Costa Adeje, with panoramic sea views surrounded by lush landscaped gardens. There are several pools, some are heated fresh water pools while others are seawater pools – your choice.

All guest rooms have been renovated and are decorated with great attention to detail. The hotel has four restaurants including a main buffet restaurant, an excellent Italian à-la-carte restaurant, a gourmet restaurant and a one with Spanish specialties. There are also several bars including a piano bar, a pub and snack bar, as well as a juice bar.

The spa offers wonderful treatments, and you get one free spa thermal circuit on us! The hotel also has excellent gym facilities for those looking for something a bit more strenuous, in addition to tennis courts, paddle tennis and football.

Tapas in Tenerife in the Canary Islands on a luxury yoga retreat.

Local Cuisine

The food in Tenerife is a mix of typical Spanish tapas and paellas with fresh natural ingredients, as well as every other international cuisine you’re craving on holiday. Plenty of options – fresh veggies, salads, grilled fish and meat, all sorts of tapas and rice dishes.

We love to try out the local restaurants and taste the fresh ingredients, it’s all part of the holiday. You can eat and drink what you like, and we’ll take you to some great restaurants, but we’re also sensitive to people dietary needs.

We’ll have breakfast together after yoga, and some people may have a light lunch or snack by the pool. We’ll plan a group dinner in town or on the promenade each evening for those who want to join.

What yoga means to us

Yoga is at the heart of our retreats, and we offer the real deal. You’ll definitely get a good workout, but the goal of the physical practice is to challenge you physically so you can begin to let go and quiet the mind. That’s what yoga is all about – calming the mind. And that’s what we teach on our yoga retreats. You will feel re-energized and restored both physically and mentally.

Vinyasa Yoga and Yin Yoga

We offer two yoga classes a day on our yoga retreat in Italy: a morning Vinyasa flow class to get your heart going, and an evening Yin class to relax. Both classes are suitable for all levels.

Getting to Tenerife

Fly into Tenerife South airport (Tenerife North airport is a bit further away). There are direct flights to Tenerife South from several European cities – check Easyjet for some schedules. Otherwise you can fly to Madrid and take a connecting flight to Tenerife South airport. Flights are still quite reasonable, but we strongly suggest booking them in advance since airline prices increase closer to the travel dates.

A taxi from the airport to the hotel is about €25 and easy to find at the exit of the airport. If you arrive around the same time as someone else, we’ll put you in touch so you can share a taxi.

Plan to arrive at some point on the first day, we’ll have a group dinner that evening and yoga classes will start the next morning. If you wish to arrive earlier or stay longer, please let us know, we can help arrange that with the hotel.
