What to expect
Our Lanzarote yoga retreat is the perfect escape from the cold winter weather to warm sunny days on a lovely island. We’ll practice yoga outdoors right in front of the ocean, we’ll relax at the pool, take day trips to beautiful beaches and old colonial Spanish towns, and long walks along the promenade.
Sarah will teach two yoga classes daily – a Vinyasa flow class and a Yin yoga class – and will modify poses for beginners and challenge the more advanced yogis, so everyone can join. The morning Vinyasa flow classes are quite active, while the afternoon Yin yoga classes are slower and with deep stretches. And all of them are optional (we’ll have one morning off with no yoga for a break mid-week).
We’ll plan group dinners and do some things together, but we understand that having some quiet time alone is also important. We’ll recommend different things to do around the island, but completely up to you to join what you like.
Lanzarote offers something for everyone – you can walk along the coast to nearby towns, enjoy water sports and boat trips, indulge in a spa treatment, explore a new beach every day, or go for a bike ride. Or you can spend your days by the pool with a book, soaking up the sun and warm weather – and that’s absolutely fine!

Luxury Accommodation
5* Secrets Lanzarote Resort & Spa
We’re hosting our yoga retreat at the Secrets Lanzarote Resort & Spa, a refurbished adults-only hotel located right by the ocean near the lovely marina of Puerto Calero. It has panoramic ocean views surrounded by lush landscaped gardens. There are four outdoor pools (some heated) as well as an indoor heated one – your choice!
All the rooms have been renovated to a modern standard with great attention to detail – you can pick between ocean-view and garden-view rooms. The hotel has several delicious restaurants, as well as several bars including a poolside bar and an indoor bar – both offering snacks as well as cocktails.
The spa offers wonderful treatments and has a sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and Turkish baths. The hotel also has excellent gym facilities, in addition to fitness classes, tennis, table tennis, and the hotel can also arrange golfing and diving classes on request.
Local Cuisine
The food in Lanzarote is a mix of Spanish tapas and paellas as well as several other international cuisines. Plenty of options – fresh veggies, salads, grilled fish and meat, vegan and vegetarian dishes.
We’ll have a buffet breakfast together after yoga. You may want a light lunch or snack in the afternoon, and we’ll plan a group dinner in town or at the marina each evening for those who want to join.
We’ll try out local restaurants rather than eat at the hotel every day – it’s all part of the holiday! You can eat and drink what you like, we’ll also try some nice Spanish wines with dinner. We’re careful about people’s dietary needs and will make sure there are options for everyone.
The buffet breakfast is included in the price. We didn’t include snacks and dinners so you can decide what you would like to eat and spend accordingly. You only pay for what you eat and drink, and the restaurants are reasonably priced.
Where we are going
Where is the yoga retreat located?
Our yoga retreat in the Canary Islands is located on the island of Lanzarote (see Lanzarote on a map).
Although Lanzarote belongs to Spain, it lies further south, just off the coast of Africa, with perfect warm weather and sunshine year-round – one of the reasons why this island is such a wonderful beach holiday destination.
We’ll be staying in the high-end resort of Puerto Calero on the south-east part of the island – the most upscale part of Lanzarote with a lovely marina and promenade filled with seaside cafés and restaurants. Our 5* hotel is right on the coast, secluded in a quiet area, but just a ten minute walk into town.
There are many direct flights from several European cities.
About Lanzarote
Lanzarote has a lot of natural beauty, with a mix of rugged terrain, dramatic landscapes, beautiful sandy beaches and stunning cliffs. Unlike its neighboring islands, it doesn’t have high-rise buildings, and has maintained a more sophisticated feel.
The resorts of Playa Blanca in the south and Puerto del Carmen halfway up the coast have lots of shops and restaurants, and there are also charming colonial villages that are worth a visit – our favorite is Teguise.
Lanzarote also has some beautiful beaches – from the famous Playa Papagayo and Playa Flamingo in the south, to Playa las Cucharasa a bit further up the coast, and Playa de los Pocillos not far from our hotel. We’ll take day trips and visit several of them.
What yoga means to us
Yoga is at the heart of our retreats, and we offer the real deal. You’ll definitely get a good workout, but the goal of the physical practice is to challenge you physically so you can begin to let go and quiet the mind. That’s what yoga is all about – calming the mind. And that’s what we teach on our yoga retreats. You will feel re-energized and restored both physically and mentally.
Vinyasa Yoga and Yin Yoga
We offer two yoga classes a day on our yoga retreat in Lanzarote: a active morning Vinyasa flow class to get you going, and a slower Yin class in the afternoons. Both classes are suitable for all levels.
Your yoga teacher and host
Sarah will teach a morning Vinyasa flow class and an afternoon Yin yoga class. She’ll modify the classes and poses for all levels, and will give you options so you can practice at your own pace. If you’ve been practicing for a while or are just starting out, you’ll be able to follow all the classes.

A Typical Day
We’ll practice yoga twice a day, with plenty of time to relax on the beach and indulge in spa treatments:
Activities & Excursions
There’s plenty to do in between yoga classes:
Wander around the cobblestone streets and colorful houses of the old capital Teguise, or the smaller colonial town of Yaiza.
Visit Timanfaya National Park and its awe-inspiring stretch of dormant volcanos and lava fields. The terrain looks more like the moon!
Lanzarote offers a wide range of water sports. You can also take a sailing trip to nearby La Graciosa island to see its lovely beaches.
Treat yourself to a facial or a massage at the hotel spa and unwind in deep relaxation in between yoga classes.
Wander around beachfront resorts lined with high-end boutiques, or venture into an open-air street market in one of the villages.
So many beaches to discover, pick a different one every day – we’ll be happy to recommend some and take you there.

Getting to Lanzarote
Fly into Lanzarote airport, there are direct flights from several European cities – check Easyjet for some schedules. Otherwise you can fly to Madrid or Barcelona and take a connecting flight to Lanzarote. Flights are still quite reasonable, but we strongly suggest booking them in advance since airline prices increase closer to the travel dates.
A taxi from the airport to the hotel is about €25-30 – there are plenty of taxis at the exit of the airport. If you arrive around the same time as someone else, we’ll put you in touch so you can share a taxi.
Plan to arrive at some point on the 17 February 2024, we’ll have a group dinner that evening to meet each other, and yoga classes will start the next morning. The last class will be on the afternoon of the 23 February, and people will leave throughout the day on the 24 February 2024 depending on flights. If you wish to arrive earlier or stay longer, please let us know, we can help arrange that with the hotel.
